Nico Bakker - RG500
This bike has some serious history, built by frame makers Nico Bakker in Holland in 1988’s for Dutch Champion Koos Van Liijen. The bike was raced in GP’s and the Dutch national Championships. The bike won the 1989 Dutch 500 championship. In the early 90’s the bike was owned my Martin Jones of Mr Jones racing and was ridden by John Mossey, father of Luke Mossey, current BSB superbike rider. The bike is featured in Mick Walker’s book – Suzuki Production Racing Bikes. Spec is as follows:
Chassis:
Nico Bakker beam frame, a superb piece of engineering
Swinging Arm, Suzuki RG500 Mk7, with Suzuki XR45 linkage
Shock – custom built M Shock from the shock factory
Forks – Billet aluminium XR45 with Billet XR45 yokes
Aluminium Clip-ons
Ohlins Steering damper
Marvic three spoke Magnesium wheels, 3.5 x 17 front 5.5 x 17 rear
Brakes – reconditioned Nissin callipers, AP racing radial master cylinder, currently fitted with brand new wavy 320 disks.
Engine:
Heavily modified race prepared RG500 engine, freshly rebuild with all new parts ready for running in. Originally built by Mark Drysdale in Canada, barrels re worked by Stan Stephens.
570 cylinders and barrels – New pistons and rings
Rebuilt cranks with new bearings, seals, webs and con rods
New Nova gearbox
New Performance fabrications light weight generator
Billet Performance fabrications three-piece clutch case
Standard carbs cnc oval bored
New ignitech ignition
Custom made loom
Performance fabrications mild steel expansion chambers
RG500 Mk 9 bodywork fitted, XR32 factory fuel tank still in original factory paint, Harris billet fuel cap.
